The Alibar, also Alibarans,[n 1] were a humanoid species native to a planet of the same name.
Biology[]
The Alibar were humanoid, though Doctor Claire Finn noted that Alibaran biology was very different from humans. They were distinguished by their turquoise skin, white hair, and the unique shape of their ears.[1]
Culture[]
For much of their history, the Alibar had been a democratic society and members of the Planetary Union. Throughout the 24th century, they were technologically equivalent to the humans of Earth.[1]
In 2400, the Alibar elected a new leader, Pret, who accused other species of infiltrating the Alibar and damaging their civilization. Under the Pret administration, the Alibar unexpectedly withdrew from the Union by December and began creating the "Construct," a massive quantum shifter, at enormous expense.[2] Quality of life slowly deteriorated and freedoms were restricted. Alibars could not travel between regions of their planet without registering first at local registration offices. Offices tracked any Alibar that had left the planet such as Ycil, who had been an officer in the Union. Pret continued to warn of "aliens" living among them and prophesied that launch day, the shifting of the Alibar system to a new universe, in July 2421 would make things right.[1]
With the advent of matter synthesis, resources were no longer scarce, and the Alibar abandoned the use of money to exchange for goods and services by 2320. After the Alibar left the Union, synthesis became increasingly difficult, and the Alibar were forced to return to the use of the dracha as a currency.[1]
Without matter synthesis, ordinary Alibar were unable to synthesize food - although the wealthy may have continued to use Food Synthesizers - and returned to cooking. Restaurants existed, but the rising cost of food made eating out difficult. "People who can afford to eat out don't eat here," said one restaurant owner. Lunch for two adults costed Ed Mercer and Kelly Grayson 50 drachas.[1]
Notable Alibar[]
Production[]
Writing of the Alibar can be found on signs throughout the planet. Artist David Cabeza has stated that the writing is merely meaningless shapes he invented and not a cipher or language.[3]
Trivia[]
- It is implied that Alibar have first and last names.[2]
- There were at least millions and perhaps billions of Alibars, as implied by a registrar who said there were at least three million people named Ycil.
