Brett Rickaby is an American actor who portrayed the captive zoo alien Lurenek in the episode Command Performance.
Background[]
Rickaby attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where his skill led him to perform at the Kennedy Center. While still an undergraduate student, he won the National Irene Ryan Acting Award and the Kennedy Center National Acting Award. After, he enrolled in New York University's Graduate Acting Program.
Upon graduating, Rickaby's worked at the New York Shakespeare Festival and played Jigger Craigin in the National Tour of Carousel. He moved to Los Angeles and began appearing in film and television, and taught at the David Kagen School of Acting. He worked alongside Seth MacFarlane in the movie A Million Ways to Die in the West.
The Orville[]
Rickaby originally auditioned as a Krill, but he misread The Orville as a comedy and he later described his performance as over-the-top. He returned to audition successfully for Lurenek, an alien held captive in a zoo by a technologically advanced species known as Calivon. Rickaby cites actor Steve Buscemi as his inspiration for protraying Lurenek.[1]
Trivia[]
- In Command Performance, Rickaby acted under director Robert Duncan McNeill. This was not the first time the two worked in these roles. In the episode "Twilight" in Star Trek: Enterprise, McNeill directed and Rickaby played Yedrin Koss.
