The Cargo Hold, or Cargo Bay, is a room within spacecraft in the Planetary Union and other species like the Horbalak.[1] The room is used to store crates of cargo, the ship's shuttlecraft, and other valuable goods.
Description[]
The Orville houses two cargo holds,[2] but smaller ships like the transport vessel have only one.[3] Each hold is a large room that spans two floors in height, thus making it as tall as the Shuttle Bay. Rear doors exit to the ship hallway.[4]
The cargo hold connects directly with the Shuttle Bay to move shipping containers and shuttles.[n 1]
Trivia[]
- As of the end of Season 2, the names 'Cargo Hold' and 'Cargo Bay' refer to the same room within the Orville's Shuttle Bay and are interchangeable.[5]
- The Orville's cargo hold is only directly seen in the episode Firestorm, when Chief Security Officer Alara Kitan fights an evil Clown.
- The cargo hold in the episode is dark, with the room's lights off. It is not clear why the officers would not turn on the lights when they are looking for someone who is hiding.
Appearances[]
- Episode 1x01: Old Wounds (mentioned only)
- Episode 1x10: Firestorm
- Episode 1x11: New Dimensions (USS Orville, mentioned only) (Horbalak vessel)
- Episode 2x10: Blood of Patriots (mentioned only)
- Episode 1.5x03: The Word of Avis, Pt. 1 (transport vessel)
Notes[]
- ↑ This must be true because in Old Wounds Gordon Malloy recalls to John LaMarr that he was suspended after doing a manual override on a tricky shuttle docking which led to him shearing off a cargo bay door. This means the cargo bay doors are connected to the shuttle bay.
