For all directors of episodes of The Orville.
- Jon Favreau directed the series premiere Old Wounds.
- Seth MacFarlane, creator and showrunner of The Orville, directed a majority of the show's episodes.
- The only dedicated director was Jon Cassar, who was hired as director for Season 2 after MacFarlane and others responded favorably to his guest direction of the Season 1 episode Krill.
- On each episode starting in Season 2, Cassar either served as an episode's foremost credited director or as a second unit director.
A small cadre of staff on The Orville doubled as directors for individual episodes as well:
- Executive producer and writer Brannon Braga directed About a Girl, Into the Fold, Firestorm, and Mad Idolatry.
- Script supervisor Kelly Cronin directed New Dimensions and Lasting Impressions.
- First unit director Gary Rake directed Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow and The Road Not Taken.
Other episodes were directed by guests. In several occasions, guest directors had pedigrees in science-fiction television:
- Jonathan Frakes, famous for playing William T. Riker in the Star Trek franchise, directed Pria and Sanctuary.
- Robert Duncan McNeill, famous for playing Tom Paris on Star Trek: Voyager, directed Command Performance and All the World is Birthday Cake.
- James L. Conway, a director from Star Trek: The Next Generation, directed If the Stars Should Appear.
- Majority Rule was directed by Tucker Gates.
- Cupid's Dagger was directed by Jamie Babbit.
- Primal Urges was directed by Kevin Hooks.
- Blood of Patriots was directed by Rebecca Rodriguez.
- Jon Cassar directed Krill as a guest, for he was not hired as a staff director until Season 2.
