A communications device built into the wall of building or vessel is called a communicator or comm, a mobile device is a comscanner, and a device attached to the clothing is a wrist communicator.

Communications of Old Earth were often delivered in microwave frequencies. By the early 25th century, communications regarded such technology (still in use by primitive societies such as the Regorians) as antiquated and "old school."[1]
