Dark Horse Comics is an independent comic book publisher. Starting in 2018, Dark Horse Comics has worked on and published official comic books of The Orville. Dark Horse Comics collaborates with David A. Goodman, a executive producer and writer on the show. Goodman writes each comic issue, while Dark Horse Comics coordinates with artists and publishes the final product.
The premiere issue, New Beginnings, Pt. 1, was released to comic book stores on July 17, 2019.[1]
Dark Horse Books released the first paperback volume, The Orville Season 1.5: New Beginnings, on February 18, 2020, which contained the first four issues.[2] It was followed was followed by The Orville Season 2.5: Launch Day, containing the issues Launch Day and Heroes, and later by The Orville Season 2.5: Digressions, containing Digressions and Artifacts.
A deluxe compilation of all issues in Seasons 1.5 and 2.5 was released as The Orville Library Edition Volume 1.
Background[]
On March 7, 2019, Dark Horse Comics announced they would publish a two-episode saga of The Orville set in 2420 between Season 1 and Season 2. Written by television series executive producer and writer David A. Goodman, with art from newcomer David Cabeza and colorist Michael Atiyeh, The Orville comic book will be a four-issue series.
Dark Horse Comics provided Cabeza with reference photographs from 20th Century Fox.[3]
