A simulated Dr. Finn prods the force field of the brig.
A force field was an energy barrier with many applications and varying degrees of strength. Force field technology was used by the Planetary Union, the Krill, and the Calivon.
Description[]
A force field was created by an electrokinetic power generator.[1]
Force fields were most famously used in a ship's brig, where the field's transparent barrier allowed Security Officers to simultaneously detain and observe prisoners. However, perhaps a more important was the use of force fields to cover a breach in the hull. For example, when an explosion damaged the exterior of the USS Orville around the Shuttle Bay, Chief Engineer Steve Newton said the "force field snapped like it's supposed to."[2]
In the Planetary Union, force fields had varying levels of power for protection - probably up to Level 12. Upon learning that an Envall was on the ship, Chief Medical Officer Claire Finn ordered an immediate Level 12 force field to surround around her quarters, directing all available power be diverted for best strength.[3]
Force fields could be erected around specific areas like ship quarters.[3]
Other[]
Lieutenant Dann built an electrokinetic waterwheel as a young boy, capable of generating a force field. He used the force field to trap his sister, Jann, in a shed so he could play with terrazon blocks.[4]
