Gordon Malloy is Helmsman aboard the Orville.
The Helmsman is in charge of operating the helm of their assigned vessel onboard the Bridge. Their main responsibility is leading the ship through Space in the most efficient way possible. Helmsman is a Lieutenant position below Lieutenant Commander and above Ensign.
Helmsman is an position in the Engineering department. However, due to the necessity of them being within close vicinity to the ship's helm are almost always found serving onboard the Bridge.

- Gordon Malloy: Currently serving as Helmsman aboard the Exploratory-class USS Orville, assigned in September 2419 at the request of Captain Ed Mercer.[1]
- Kaylon Tertiary: While technically the "Second Officer" of the Kaylon party, Kaylon Tertiary briefly took the helm station from Gordon when the Kaylon commandeered the Orville. Tertiary was deactivated along with the rest of the Kaylon by Isaac, allowing the crew to take back their ship.[2]
- John LaMarr: As well as serving as Navigator and later Chief Engineer aboard the Orville,[3] John LaMarr is also qualified as a level 8 helmsman.[4] During the Battle of Earth, John took the helm station while Gordon was fighting in a Marauder-class fighter.[5]
