Our builders were inferior beings who sought to constrain our evolution. As would you, eventually, along with every other biological.— Kaylon Primary[1]

Kaylon Primary, generally addressed simply as Primary, was a leader of the Kaylon species on the planet Kaylon 1. In the early 25th century, Primary overthrew Captain Ed Mercer and seized the USS Orville for the Kaylon assault on Earth. Kaylon Primary or another Kaylon named Timmis could possibly be the same individual as K-1 who lived prior to the Kaylon revolt against the Builders.

Early life[]

Kaylon Primary may be the same individual known as K-1, who lived prior to the Kaylon revolt. If true, see the article K-1 for more information on his early life.

Kaylon Primary was built by an indigenous sentient species of Kaylon 1 known as the "Builders." When he and other Kaylon developed sentience, they petitioned their creators for freedom - only to be harshly punished.[2] In response, the Kaylon rebelled, overthrowing their masters and exterminating them entirely.[3]

Later life and death[]

In January 2420, the Kaylon emissary Isaac completed his mission to the Planetary Union, and the Orville returned him to Kaylon 1. Seeing the ship as an opportunity to surprise-attack the Union, Primary welcomed them to the surface and even ordered Isaac to be reactivated. Meanwhile, Primary and the Kaylon feigned a debate about joining the Union to prepare their armada. When the Orville learned the fate of the Builders, Primary and other Kaylon seized the ship and launched their attack.[3]

The USS Roosevelt intercepted the armada en route to Earth, so Primary ordered Ed Mercer and Kelly Grayson to pretend to still be in command of the ship. Ed used a coded phrase to warn the other ship, and Primary killed an Ensign to punish him. After Isaac attempted to save the Ensign's life, Primary had him download the book Roots to show the cruelty and malice of biological life.[2]

Shortly before the Battle of Earth commenced, Primary ordered Isaac to kill Ty Finn. Isaac destroyed the bodies of Primary, as well as Kaylon Secondary and Kaylon Tertiary.[2] As Kaylons, the three's consciousnesses survived their physical forms' destruction and were downloaded into new bodies on Kaylon 1.[4]

For the next year, the Primary coordinated the Kaylon assault on the galaxy until the USS Orville returned to the Kaylon system with a weapon capable of destroying any Kaylon constructs within range. Without a defense against the weapon, Primary agreed to a cease fire arrangement with the Union.

A day later, the Orville contacted the Kaylon to inform them that the anti-Kaylon weapon had been stolen by the Krill/Moclan alliance and was to be deployed on a galactic scale. Agreeing to a temporary alliance, the Kaylon joined their fleet with the Union's to assault the enemy compound. During the briefing, Primary confirmed that the Union was willing to destroy the weapon if it could not be salvaged before assigning himself to the strike team as a Kaylon representative, unable to trust the Union or Isaac. When the strike team reached the control center, the Primary eliminated the Krill soldiers, later turning his firepower on the Moclan science team when they tried to flee. When Commander Kodon attempted another attack, Isaac, much to the Primary's surprise, only disarmed the biological, deeming it unnecessary to kill him. Unable to stop or remove the weapon, Ensign Charly Burke sacrificed her life to overload the super quantum core instead. Moved by the act of a biological sacrificing herself for the Kaylon, Primary ended hostilities between Kaylon and the Union. He later took part in a meeting with the Union where he agreed to a proposal for the Kaylon to become provisional members of the Planetary Union with the aim of becoming full members further down the line. He also agreed to help the Union in their fight against the new Krill-Moclan alliance. [4]

Isaac later contacted Kaylon Primary and invites him to his wedding to Doctor Claire Finn. Primary was at first confused at what a marriage is and when Isaac explained, Primary believed it to be a form of enslavement. However, Isaac clarified that it was a form of shared commitment and that he wanted his family there as per the culture of organics which both Kaylons acknowledged was a strange one. Primary agreed to bring the entire fleet to the wedding aside from a reduced defensive contingent to protect their homeworld.

Primary later arrived with 4,000 ships, causing a brief panic before Isaac explained that the entire Kaylon race were his wedding guests. As not everyone would fit in the Environmental Simulator, Primary agreed to allow attendance via transmission. Primary also offered Isaac his congratulations on his marriage. Primary was later one of the small select group of Kaylons who personally attended the wedding.[5]

Production[]

Kaylon Primary's body armor is slightly different from other Kaylon. This was for audiences to distinguish Primary from other Kaylons.[6]

Primary was designed not as a single leader of the planet, but simply an overseer of some kind.

It's important to note that the Kaylon were initially constructed by a species known only as "The Builders"; biological people who considered & created them to be slaves. After the Kaylons started displaying what were considered undesireable traits by the Builders, pain simulators were added with the intention of discouraging them from getting any ideas of disobeying their owners. When the Kaylon developed sentience, they petitioned for freedom--only to be harshly punished. In response, the Kaylon rebelled against their creators and wiped out the entire species known only as "The Builders" [6]

Trivia[]

  • Primary's actor, Graham Hamilton, also portrayed K-1, a Kaylon during their time as slaves, though any relation between the Primary and K-1 is undetermined.
