We destroyed one of their colonies during our expansion into that sector. It is ours by divine right, but they do not see this. They are savage and do not retreat. And they never leave survivors.— Teleya[1]
The Krill-Chak'tal conflict was a protracted military conflict of at least several battles fought between the Krill and the Chak'tal in the early 25th century.
By Krill accounts, the conflict began after the Krill destroyed one of the Chak'tal colonies, and the Chak'tal launched a punitive campaign in retaliation.
History[]
At least two battles are identified in the Krill-Chak'tal conflict, the destruction of a Chak'tal colony and an attack on a Krill destroyer.
Prior to war, the Krill had expanded their military empire into a Chak'tal sector of space as part of their ongoing push into the rest of the galaxy.
At an unknown date at or before September 2420, the Krill destroyed one of the Chak'tal's colonies. According to Teleya, the Krill viewed it as theirs "by divine right."
The Chak'tal launched a military campaign in retaliation. Teleya noted that the Chak'tal did not retreat and did not leave survivors after battle.
In October 2420, three Chak'tal ships attacked a destroyer located in Krill space somewhat near the territory of the Planetary Union. Unknown to the Chak'tal, the Krill (including Teleya) had recently captured Captain Ed Mercer of the Union and were in the midst of interrogation.
The Krill resisted and fought back, but were ultimately defeated. If Teleya was truthful that they do not leave survivors, the ship was either captured or destroyed and the entire crew killed.
Meanwhile, Teleya and Ed had fled by escape pod to a nearby habitable planet, and Chak'tal soldiers pursued. The Chak'tal searched, and nearly captured, the two on the planet's surface, but the USS Orville located and rescued the two.
Unintended consequences[]
The attack on the Krill destroyer forced Ed and Teleya to work together to survive. When the Orville rescued them, Ed made a unilateral decision as captain to release Teleya back to the Krill as a gesture of goodwill. The move may have helped facilitated between the two sides and brought an end to the lengthy Krill-Planetary Union conflict.
