Lurenek is a captured Dakeeli currently held as an exhibit by the Calivon within their zoo. By his own recollection, by October, 2419, he had been imprisoned for eight months.
History[]
After Captain Ed Mercer and Commander Kelly Grayson find themselves confused about where they ended up, Lurenek explains that they are the newest additions to the Calivon Zoo.
The two USS Orville crewmembers become agitated and determined to escape, but Lurenek advises them not to waste their time: he has been trapped for months and Ock'or for over thirty years.
Production[]
In the original script, Lurenek was unnamed and described simply as a spiny-skinned alien. Lurenek has no identified species.[2] Actor Brett Rickaby cites Steve Buscemi as his inspiration to act as Lurenek.[2]

- According to Rickaby who portrays Lurenek, he envisions that Lurenek has a "seedy" background that gives Lurenek a snide attitude and that he enjoys teasing new additions to the zoo.[2]
- Lurenek's costume was exhibited at the FIDM Museum's gallery of television costume design from August 21 to October 6, 2018.[3]
- Lurenek's species are confirmed to be members of the Planetary Union in Sanctuary, which features two delegates from his race on the Planetary Union Council.
