The Okudum were a humanoid species native to the Okudum homeworld, the fourth planet of HR 5070.
Biology[]
The Okudum strongly resembled Xelayans, as both humanoid species had ridged foreheads and pointed, ridged ears. However, the Okudum lacked the formidable strength that the Xelayans developed by evolving on a high-gravity planet. The reason for their common appearance was unexplained as of 2416, although one theory stated that the two shared a common ancestor.[1]
History[]
The Okudum were a peaceful, though technologically primitive people. According to Chief of Security Talla Keyali, who visited the Okudum for several days in 2416, "They live off the land, treat each other with respect."[1]
One of their folk heroes was Xandia, a farm girl who overthrew a tyrannical government and saved her people.[1] The Okudum did not believe Xandia was a historical figure: merely a legend.[2]
In 2420, the Nazh came to the planet and enslaved many Okudum and forced them to mine dysonium by hand.[1] A year later, Talla, Chief Engineer John LaMarr, and Doctor Claire Finn dressed Talla as Xandia and helped the Okudum rise up. After Talla was captured by the Nazh and nearly executed, an Okudum girl named Aki assumed the identity of Xandia and expelled the Nazh.[2]
