The structure.
The Quantum Shifter, also known to the Planetary Union and the Krill as the "Construct," was a large unmanned sphere built by the Pret administration of Alibar in space in the Alibar system. True to its name, the shifter's enormous quantum reactor was capable of "shifting" an entire planetary system into a new universe.
The shifter was situated on the far side of Alibar's sun. Construction took decades over the early 25th century, hidden from the rest of the galaxy via quantum interference. The Quantum Shifter was discovered and subsequently destroyed by the Krill in the year 2421.

The Alibar species of the planet Alibar were members of the Planetary Union through the 24th century. In 2401, that changed with the election of a new government that quickly seceded from the Union and ordered the creation of the Quantum Shifter at great expense.[1] Building the structure took several decades in coordination with scientists and engineers.[2]
While the Quantum Shifter and the planet Alibar was only one parsec from the hostile Krill, its existence was shrouded behind "quantum interference" which allowed it to remain undetected for 20 years. The Krill discovered the shifter in the summer of 2421. Believing it to be a weapon of massive proportions and a threat to their planet, the Krill launched an eight-destroyer fleet under Captain Kratok to attack it.[2]
The Union investigated the structure in July 2421 and determined its true use was for the Alibaran Launch Day. Launch Day shortly thereafter, and the Quantum Shifter sent itself, the Alibar system, and the eight Krill destroyers to the new and empty universe. Kratok's war fleet destroyed the shifter shortly thereafter.[1]
