World of the Orville

The World of the Orville is an official book by Jeff Bond describing the making of The Orville and offering a behind-the-scenes look at the show's development. It was released on January 16, 2018.

Summary[]

Publisher Titan Books describes The World of the Orville as a "lavish companion" to the show. The book introduces concept art, on-set photography, and technical schematics of the vessels, as well as photographs of production design, costumes, makeup prosthetics, and visual effects.

Production[]

According to Author Jeff Bond, Fox brought Bond into their studio for interviews with production staff for a single day to gain a sense of the show. While the crew filmed episodes in 2017, production artwork and drafts were provided to Bond,[1] and he was allowed to watch the episodes from the show.[2] He interviewed the heads of each production department but, unfortunately, he did not have the opportunity to directly interview the actors or the show's creator Seth MacFarlane.[2]

The World of the Orville is 159 pages, published by Titan as a hardcover-only book. It was released on January 16, 2018.

Trivia[]

  • The book was originally titled The Art of The Orville but Bond and executive producer Jason Clark were unhappy with it. After speaking with Titan Books, Bond changed the title to its present one.[2]
