One year later.

The series premiere opens with Kelly Grayson's affair in the fall of 2418 before jumping to September 2419 when Ed Mercer becomes captain of the USS Orville. The show briefly enters the 29th century in Pria. Season 1 concludes in April or May of 2420.

Season 1.5 takes place over the summer of 2420 with glimpses of the early 24th century in New Beginnings, Pt. 1 and glimpses of the early winter of 2420 in The Word of Avis, Pt. 1.

Season 2 commences around August 2420. The cold opening of All the World is Birthday Cake takes place around the year 2417 on Regor 2. The season concludes in May 2421.

Season 2.5 takes place exactly 12 months after the conclusion of Season 1.5. Launch Day, Pt. 1 opens in 2400 aboard the USS Bohr before jumping to July 2421.

Season 3 commences in early 2422; events in the latter half of season 2 are said to have taken place "last year".

The events are set a year earlier in the original script of Old Wounds, with the series opening in 2417 before moving forward to 2418.

3,400,000 years ago

• The Zankon rules part of the galaxy as part of the Zankon empire and enslave 37 other species. The subjugated species eventually revolt.
• Predicting the collapse of their empire, the Zankon hide part of their formidable fleet inside the Cruxis system in the hopes of one day returning to power.

• Flatland, a story about a two-dimensional society of shapes which Ed Mercer would liken to two-dimensional space, is published. A metaphor for inequality, the more sides a shape had, the higher their social status; the triangles were the workman class, the squares were the gentry and the circles were the most respected of all.

  • The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, make their first successful flight in the Wright Flyer. The Orville will later be named for one of them, and a model of the Wright Flyer will adorn Ed Mercer's office.

• On the morning after the date, Kelly is extracted from her apartment, which deposits her aboard the USS Orville seven years later.

  • Before 5:00 p.m., the Battle of Epsilon 2 is fought.

In the original script of Old Wounds, it is stated that three weeks pass between Ed accepting Kelly as his First Officer and the repaired Orville leaving the Dockyard. This detail, however, does not appear in the final version.

• The events of Command Performance take place over 21 days.
  • Ed and Kelly are captured by the Calivon.

  • Klyden wakes Bortus to discuss his needs at 7:00 a.m.
  • The away team enters the bio-ship at 10:00 a.m.
  • The Orville rescues the bio-ship and saves the USS Druyan from an attacking Krill destroyer.

Teleya is captured.

  • Darulio briely joins the Orville to analyze the Lopovian birthing bucket.
  • Once Darulio joins, the rest of the episode takes place over just a few days.
  • Once Ed confronts Darulio (intending to kick him off the Orville), results of the DNA tests of the birthing bucket come 36 hours later.

    • Repairs to the ship take two hours, 31 minutes.
      • The Horbalak captain Blavaroch dies one hour, 15 minutes later.

  • John LaMarr is promoted from Navigator to Newton's old position of Chief Engineer.

April–May

• The events of Mad Idolatry take place over 34 days:
  • On the first day, Ed plays latchkum with Bortus and Klyden, then grabs a drink with Kelly where they agree to go on a date later that week.
  • The next day, the Orville discovers a multiphasic planet. Kelly, Gordon, and Isaac crash on the planet. Kelly heals an injured girl, inadvertently creating the Church of Kelly.
    • Because 700 years pass for every 11 days on the Orville, 2,100 years pass on the planet during this episode.
  • Isaac spends 700 years on the planet.

June

The battle ship Burton is rediscovered.

• Several weeks after leaving Kandar 1 and one month before Ja'loja, the events of New Beginnings, Pt. 2 take place over the course of two days. New Beginnings, Pt. 2 takes place over around four days.
  • On the first day,
    • Isaac states that 48.97 hours remain in his analysis of AXP 1E 1048-59.
    • Ed and Gordon leave for a tactical conference on Outpost 23.
    • Kelly orders Cassius to admit Topa to his class.
  • On the second day,
    • The tactical conference is held.
    • Isaac states eight hours, 57 minutes remain in his analysis.

      • Marcus and James and a third friend disrupt class, hack the Food Synthesizer to synthesize vodka, and get drunk in an Environmental Simulator room. Claire grounds Marcus.
      • That evening, Ed spies on Kelly's and Cassius' date.
      • Alara allows Bortus to set her up with a blind date.
    • The next day, Kelly confronts Ed about spying on her date.
    • Within one week since Janel joined, Bortus has his ja'loja and reception, and Ed meets Janel.

August

Nyxia is destroyed.

• Dann learns that he has the same birthday as Ed Mercer.
  • A week later, the events of Primal Urges take place over three days from the initial observation of Nyxia to its destruction by its own star.
    • First contact with the Nyxians takes place two days after initial observation of the planet (or one day before destruction).
    • A shuttle is prepared with less than 10 hours remaining until destruction.
    • The planet breaks up as the rescue shuttle returns. When it docks, the Orville has six minutes remaining before the star destroys the ship as well.

September

Alara Kitan leaves the Orville.

• The events of Home take place:
  • On a Friday, Alara Kitan and Isaac arm wrestle. Alara breaks her arm.
    • Alara and Isaac have played 31 matches. Gordon Malloy states their arm-wrestling match is a Friday-night tradition. If they arm wrestle once each Friday, they began the tradition in January.
  • On a later day, Alara returns to Xelaya. The entire time from Alara's arrival at Xelaya to the end of her time at the beach house lasts, at most, "a few days."
    • Tharl joins the Orville as its interim chief of security.
    • One week earlier, Yaphit had his six-month evaluation.
  • At least one day after arriving at Xelaya, the Kitans go to their beach home.
    • The first day, the caretaker Serris is murdered by Cambis and Floratta Borrin.
    • The next day, the Borrins hold the Kitans hostage.
      • Cambis and Floratta Borrin die.

• Alara decides to stay with her family on Xelaya and leave the Planetary Union.

September–October

Talla Keyali joins the Orville.

• The events of Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes take place within a single week.
  • Ed and Janel Tyler are captured by the Krill.
  • Janel is revealed to be Teleya.
  • A Chak'tal attack sends Ed and Janel to an uninhabited planet until they are rescued by the Orville.
• A week after the start of Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes, Talla Keyali joins the Orville as the ship's new chief of security.

October–December

• The Orville detects the Regorian's invitation for first contact.
• The events of All the World is Birthday Cake take place over five weeks, from late October to middle or end of November.
  • Kelly Grayson and Bortus are arrested by the Regorians as Giliacs.
  • On the following Monday, Bortus spends his birthday in incarceration on Regor 2.
  • On Tuesday, Kelly spends her birthday in incarceration on Regor 2.
  • After a month,
    • Regor 2 enters the blessed sign of Wasanda.
    • Kelly and Bortus are released.
    • Regor 2 closes the Giliac camps and releases the prisoners.

December

• The events of A Happy Refrain:
  • Claire works on a medical paper and Bortus grows a mustache. That evening, Orville crewmembers attend a piano recital by In.
  • On the following Thursday, Klyden finds pieces of Bortus' dinner in his mustache.
  • On Friday, a ship transports the Union Symphony to perform aboard the Orville. That night, Claire and Isaac go on their first date in the Environmental Simulator.
  • On Saturday, Claire and Isaac recount their date to their crewmates.
  • On Sunday,
    • 3:14 a.m., Isaac wakes Claire with a cake.
    • 8:00 p.m., Claire meets Isaac in Simulator 2 and they sleep together.

2421

January

• The events of Deflectors take place:
  • Groogen, a Katrudian, arrives on the Orville with a botanical team.
  • In the same day:
    • Kelly breaks up with Cassius.
    • Locar, an engineer of the Moclan Fleet, upgrades the Orville's Deflector Screens.
    • The new deflectors are tested successfully against the firepower of Rechik's ship.
    • At night, Locar confides in Talla that he his a heterosexual, a taboo in Moclan society, and is attracted to her.
  • The following day:
    • Talla takes Locar to the Environmental Simulator, where she teaches him dancing.
    • Klyden confronts Locar in the simulator. Locar programs a fake assassination of himself by Klyden and goes into hiding.
  • Locar is sentenced to life in prison.
  • Cassius transfers to the USS Watson.
• Orrin Channing steals a Krill shuttle and escapes from the Krill prison camp.
  • After, Orrin meets an Envall woman at an outpost. They use her blood to destroy Krill ships.
• Isaac spontaneously deactivates, leading Captain Mercer to set a course to return him to his people on Kaylon 1.

February

The Battle for Earth commences.

• Isaac is reactivated on Kaylon 1 32.7 cycles later.
• The Kaylon seize the Orville and launch an attack on the Planetary Union.
• The events of Identity, Pt. 2 take place:
  • The Union and the Krill defeat the Kaylon at the Battle of Earth.
    • Captain Marcos dies.
    • Six hours pass from initial detection of the USS Roosevelt and the start of the Battle of Earth.
    • Isaac emits an electromagnetic pulse which deactivates him. He is reactivated after battle by Yaphit 0.7 cycles later.
    • Loss of the Roosevelt, USS Quimby, and CCV Hawking.
• Soon after the Battle of Earth, the Krill and the Union agree to a ceasefire.

March

• Over 30 days after the ceasefire signed in February, Orrin destroys three Krill vessels, killing 1,200 and violating the ceasefire.
• One month after the ceasefire, the events of Blood of Patriots take place.
  • Yaphit receives the Sapphire Star.
  • Admiral Tucker sends the Orville to Tarazed 3 to sign a lak'vai pact with Ambassador K.T.Z. of the Davoro'kos.
    • Both ships arrive twelve hours later.
  • Orrin and Leyna Channing escape to the Orville.
  • After Orrin boards the Orville and Ambassador K.T.Z. meets with Ed Mercer for the first time, the following takes place within 11 hours and 30 minutes:
    • Orrin and Gordon steal a shuttle with several quantum storage cells containing Leyna's Envall blood. The shuttle explodes killing Orrin at 11 hours and 30 minutes.
    • Death of Orrin.
  • The Lak'vai Pact of Tarazed 3 is signed.

April

• The events of Lasting Impressions:
  • The Saratoga Springs time capsule is discovered on Earth. The Orville takes Doctor Sherman and the time capsule to a museum on Delta Pavonis.
  • Using a phone from the time capsule once belonging to Laura Huggins, Gordon creates simulation program Laura Alpha.
    • Laura performs at a bar called Dunhill on a Tuesday.
    • From 7:00 to 11:00 PM on a later day, Ed, Kelly, John, and Talla attend a party with Gordon, Laura, and her friends. After they leave, Gordon sleeps with Laura.
    • The next day at 8:30 AM, Gordon is late for his shift.
  • Bortus and Klyden develop an addiction to Old Earth cigarettes.
    • Klyden gets trapped on an elevator and shakes with nicotine craving. He tells Claire about this the next day.
• Topa's birthday in the Moclan calendar is celebrated by his parents, who give him his first latchkum.
• The events of Sanctuary, which take place over a minimum of three days but likely many more.
  • The Moclan Dockyard upgrades the weapons of all Union vessels, Exploratory-class and above. The Orville's upgrade takes one full day.
  • The Orville takes Toren, Korick, and Mersa from the Dockyard to a transport ship.
  • Topa gets in trouble for pushing Olivia.
    • The next day, Bortus takes Topa to see Mersa.

      

      The USS Orville faces a Moclan battlecruiser in orbit of the sanctuary world.

  • The Orville discovers a refuge for Moclan females known as "The Sanctuary." Ed Mercer petitions the Planetary Union Council for a special meeting to recognize The Sanctuary as a sovereign state.
    • Ed and Heveena travel to the Council, a journey of at least 20 to 24 hours.
    • The Battle of the Sanctuary.
    • The Council declines to recognize The Sanctuary in return for Moclus' promise not to interfere with the colony.

May

• The events of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow:
  • Ed and Kelly reminisce over their first date.
  • On the following day, the Quantum accelerator aboard the Orville transports a version of Kelly from 2414, specifically from the morning after her first date with Ed, to the ship.
  • Young Kelly is given guest quarters and her old rank of Lieutenant.
  • Ed goes on a "second date" with young Kelly at Mooska's.
  • After a few days, a method is devised to return the past Kelly to her own time. Doctor Claire Finn wipes young Kelly's memory, then she is sent back.
    • The memory wipe fails, creating an alternate timeline.

July

• The events of Launch Day, Pt. 1 take place over about one day.
• The events of Launch Day, Pt. 2 take place over one day.
  • Launch Day occurs: The Alibar quantum shift their system and eight Krill ships led by Kratok into a new universe.
  • Kratok and his fleet attack Alibar.

  • Topa undergoes surgery, performed by Isaac, to return to her original sex of female. The Moclans are angered, but because the surgery was performed by a Kaylon, it strengthens their resolve to vanquish the species. Klyden leaves Bortus and Topa.

  • New developments are made with the quantum accelerator, allowing a great expansion of its field and for the device to send objects into the past or future. The Orville is ordered to Sabik 3 in order for the device to be handed over to a research facility, lest it fall into Kaylon hands. The Kaylon, however, attack, hoping to seize the device. In the process, Gordon Malloy is accidentally transported to 2015. The crew of the Orville attempt to travel back to retrieve him, but end up in 2025 and discover that he has started a family. When he refuses to return to the future, they travel again to 2015 and retrieve him there.
