Timmis is a Kaylon who appears in From Unknown Graves.

He is portrayed by Christopher Larkin.

History[]

Timmis was a first generation Kaylon built by the Builders. Like all early Kaylon, he began as a simple virtual intelligence before he evolved into a sentient lifeform. After the Builders responded to the androids' sentience with cruelty, the Kaylon rebelled, exterminating their masters and claimed Kaylon 1 for themselves. [1] [2]

The Kaylon War[]

In early 2421, the Kaylons launched their galactic expansion, beginning with the Kaylon invasion of Earth only to be routed thanks to the unexpected arrival of the Krill. Outnumbered, the Kaylon retreated. [2] Timmis' Sphere was too damaged to return to Kaylon 1 however. The crew attempted to set down on Situla 4 only for their ship to lose power, crashing as a result. Timmis' ship mates perished in the crash and left him heavily damaged. After some time, Timmis was discovered by Villka and her father Timmis Uhabbus. Repairing Timmis, the scientists removed his cranial weapons before discovering a dormant electrochemical pathway in his neural net whose activation allowed Timmis to experience the full range of biological emotions. With this new perspective, Timmis became deeply regretful of his previous xenophobia towards organic life. After the elder Uhabbus died, Villka named the Kaylon after her father.[1]

Encountered by the Orville[]

A year after Villka landed on Situla 4, Timmis and Villka were discovered by the crew of the Orville, who had detected active energy signatures within the supposed to be abandoned Navarian mining outpost. Though Timmis' appearance briefly caused a panic among the Orville's landing party, Villka managed to convince the crew of Timmis' peaceful nature. When the two were brought to the Orville, Villka explained Timmis' modification to the larger crew, John LaMarr being very eager to learn more about the modification.

Timmis later met with Isaac whom he eagerly conversed with, praising his fellow's earlier understanding of biologicals before he told Isaac he could also be granted the capacity for emotion. Isaac rejected the offer but told Timmis of Ensign Charly Burke's hatred of their race. When he later met the ensign, Timmis offered his apologies for her loss during the Battle of Earth only for Charly to retort with the Kaylon's genocide of the Builders, to which Timmis explained the Kaylon's side of the story.

Isaac later came before Timmis and Villka to request the modification, allowing him to experience emotion. As a more advanced Kaylon however, Isaac's newer neural net reset, deleting his emotions. Though Timmis suggested that Isaac could downgrade to the original Kaylon configuration, Villka warned that such a process would erase Isaac's memories, Claire Finn deciding that such a price was not worth paying. After the Janisi had left the Orville, Timmis and Villka were delivered to Earth. [1]

Using the knowledge that they'd gained from Timmis, Isaac and Charly developed an anti-Kaylon superweapon, one capable of overloading constructs connected to the Kaylon synchronization matrix. Hesitant to deploy the weapon in an act of genocide, Captain Ed Mercer brought up Timmis as an example that the Kaylon could change. Admiral Thomas Perry, however, reminded Mercer that those changes were imposed through reprogramming, and a similar attempt to modify Isaac had ultimately failed.[3]
