Victor Garber is a Canadian actor who plays the Planetary Union Admiral Tom Halsey in The Orville.
Background[]
A well accomplished actor and broadway performer, Victor Garber has acted in films such as Titanic, Milk, Legally Blonde, Argo, and even the 2009 reboot of Star Trek. Garber also took roles in many Broadway plays such as Damn Yankees, Deathtrap, and Present Laughter.
After The Orville, Garber returned to Broadway for the musical Hello, Dolly!
The Orville[]
Garber described his stint on television shows as a break from Broadway theater. "I've never had a plan for what I'm going to do next," he later said, adding he prefers to take on a project by reviewing the quality of its material.[1] He appeared as Admiral Halsey in the episodes Old Wounds, Cupid's Dagger, and New Dimensions.
According to director Jon Cassar, Garber is notoriously busy and therefore difficult to book: "We'd have him on every episode if we could."[2]
In May 15, 2018, it was reported that Garber will return to The Orville for Season 2.[3]
Trivia[]
- Victor Garber played the one half of the superhero Firestorm in the CW series DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Ironically, he made no appearance or reference in the Orville episode of the same name.
- Garber had a role in the 2009 Star Trek film, but his scene, in which he played a Klingon interregator, was cut. It was restored in the DVD and Blu-ray release.
